Online Sales to Top In-Store Sales Again During Thanksgiving Weekend

Providing online sales for your products during the busiest shopping weekend of the year will be crucial to the success of your business during the 2017 Holiday Season.

Adobe is predicting that consumers shopping from their desktop will account for the majority of sales dollars for retailers this year.

Whether on a desktop or on a mobile device, online shopping is set to outpace in-store sales this year.  Though, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Super Sunday, and Cyber Monday 2017 are all expected to break records this year.

Adobe is estimating that online sales should reach around $107.4 billion, which is up 13.8% from 2016 and exceeds in-store purchases by 10%.

Cyber Monday is anticipated to be the biggest online shopping day in U.S. history, with a 16.5% increase in online sales, project to be around $6.6 billion.

During this 2017 holiday shopping season, it is expected that mobile visits to retail websites will surpass desktop visits during November and December, which is a new milestone.

A new report from App Annie is predicting that shopping on mobile apps will grow 45% during the week of Black Friday, compared to this time two years ago.  The report projects that over 6 million hours of shopping on the top 5 digital apps will be done on Black Friday alone.

According to App Annie, “the 6 million-plus hours spent on Black Friday in the top five digital-first apps (e.g. apps from companies like Amazon, Wish, Etsy and Zulily that only exist online) represents a 40% increase over just last year.”

These numbers could be even higher, as App Annie has only based this forecast on data collected from Android devices in the U.S. and does not have any predictions for iOS users.

Projected online sales for the 2017 holiday events are estimated at:

  • Thanksgiving – $2.8 billion.
  • Black Friday $5.8 billion.
  • Small Business Saturday $2.5 Billion.
  • Super Sunday $2.8 billion.
  • Cyber Monday 6.6 billion.

Based on this data, if you want to make sales this shopping season it is imperative to provide online access to your sales.
